Global Trade Compliance

Irish Medtech Skillnet working in collaboration with the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick to provide a sound introduction to global trade compliance. It was developed for employees who aspire to consolidate their existing operational experience and gain a formal global trade qualification. This Level 7 programme in global trade compliance is aimed at providing participants with the necessary skills, knowledge and competencies to become highly effective in the global trade industry.

Content

Following the completion of the Programme, the attendees should:
  • Have the tools and knowledge necessary to understand the concepts, approach and constantly changing trade compliance environment.
  • Be able to interpret regulations for importation into different markets and understand their implications to their business.
  • Understand the regulations for each market and be able to generate required documentation to comply.
  • Understand how to stay up to date on changes to these regulations.
  • Understand the impacts of non-compliance with these regulations.
  • Be able to interpret, synthesise and integrate core aspects of exportation and importation associated compliance issues and important processing parameters with a view to problem solving and making regulatory decisions in a timely and competent manner.

Delivery is through weekly online lectures supported by tutor facilitated interactive workshops and additional self directed online learning by the participant and assessed through continuous assessment.

Learning Approach:
• Each is module is delivered online both through live sessions and pre-recorded lectures.
• Participants are expected to undertake private study sessions based upon guided reading, textbooks and self-assessment questions.
• An assignment is completed for each module, with detailed written feedback from tutors, ongoing coaching, advice and support provided for the duration of the programme.

SEMESTER 1

MG2082 EXPORT IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN:
The aim of this module is to provide learners with an understanding of the key principles underlying export procedures and protocols within the EU and globally.
It will provide learners with an understanding of the legislative basis and the mechanisms required for export compliance.

MG2052 ADVANCED PRACTICES IN CLASSIFICATION:
This module will provide learners with an understanding and practical ability to correctly classify, value and determine origin for materials being imported or exported by their organisations, the legislative basis and the mechanisms required for import and export compliance.
Participants will learn to understand their role in compliance with global trade regulations and to apply practical export knowledge within their organisation.

MG2062 APPLICATIONS OF SECURITY CONTROLS:
The aim and objectives of this module are to provide learners with an understanding of the main import and export security controls.
Participants will understand their and their organizations obligations in complying with these controls and understand the frameworks and structures both within the EU and Internationally.

MG2072 PRINCIPLES 2: CUSTOMS CONTROLS:
The aim of this module is to provide learners with an understanding of customs controls and how they impact the organisation. It will provide learners with an understanding of the legislative basis and the mechanisms required for import and export compliance with customs in the EU.

MG2092 IMPORTING IN THE CONTEXT OF THE GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN:
This module will provide learners with an understanding of the principles of importing into the EU and Ireland, the legislative basis and the mechanisms required for import compliance.

SEMESTER 2

MG2141 SKILLS PORTFOLIO:
This module will provide learners with the ability to promote both the understanding and development of a range of skills appropriate to the performance of Global Trade Compliance, Import/Export and supply chain roles in modern organisations. It provides the learners with the opportunity to reflect on their previous experiences and past learning accreditations.

MG2022 CASE STUDY:
This module is designed to integrate learning across a range of subjects within the Global Trade Compliance sector. To develop analytical skills in identifying the key management problems depicted within the case study. Apply knowledge and techniques gained across programme modules by solving the key management problem(s) identified.

MG2151 STRATEGIC SUPPLY CHAIN & LOGISTICS FRAMEWORKS:
The rational for this module is to provide practical information for application in organizations as well as to develop the understanding of participants of how transport and logistics is part of the wider supply chain and to provide them with the knowledge base to develop the two concepts together to continue to drive growth and efficiency.

PM2082 MANAGING CHANGE AND CONFLICT:
This module is designed to develop the knowledge and skills of the front line manager to successfully manage change within their organisations. Explore the nature of organisational change and the internal and external sources of change. Develop an understanding of the key steps involved in successful change management including the management of human and social factors.

IE2011 INDUSTRY LEARNING PROJECT:
The aim of this module is to enable the student to combine previously learned course material with their individual talents in order to solve real-life industry projects. To develop in the students the ability to organise and direct their own work.


Additional 1-hour Master Classes of specialised subjects offered once a month. Confirmation of Master Class topics and dates will be available in December 2023.

Who should attend

Those working in the global trade compliance industry with a minimum of two years organisational experience.

Qualification

Award on NFQ is Level 7. Upon accreditation it is proposed that this Global Trade Compliance L7 students can progress to level 8 & 9 awards.
